Docta feekz ma Troat

So today we had our first appointment with the pediatric surgeon that will be doing Naomi's esophogus surgery. He is out of Childrens Hospital in Detroit. We were refered to him by our pediatric gastro doc. I was very impressed with Doctor Klein. For starters he was super nice and very animated. He was very good with Naomi and made her laugh. He explained things in a way I could fully understand them. He told me he has done 100s of these replacement surgeries and with several different methods. He told me that he does these surgeries three different ways:

1.Create an esophogus tube from a small area of the stomach and pull it up. He does these the most often as it has the easiest recovery time and the best results and far and flexibility and eating.

2. Pulling the whole stomach up to create a new esphogus. He does this when he cannot get a decent tube out of any area of the stomach. This can happen when there is excessive damage from the caustic ingestion. This is then route number two to take.

3. He still does the occasional colon esphogus tube. He said he did a lot of these back in the day, but not so much anymore as the healing time can be longer and the results not as good. This is a very last resort I guess.

Next week will be busy. On tuesday Naomi will have a barium swallow and xrays. On Wed she will have a surgical scope done by dr. Klein. She will be under for this. The doctor is scheduling her surgery for Febuary. This is better than I could of hoped for! He said Naomi is very healthy and a good weight. She has gained 3.5 lbs since being home. She is eating ensure plus with 350 cal 5-6 times a day. During the surgery Dr. Klein with remove her damaged esophgus and then will create the new esophogus tube. He said this will take 8 hours. Naomi will then be in the hospital for two weeks or so.
Naomi is very excited about this and seems to have a really good understanding of what will happen. She says all the time "Docta Feekz Ma Troat". She gets all giggly after talking about her surgery. She wants to eat rice so bad.

Please say a prayer for Naomi....that next week goes well and that we have no unplesant suprises regarding her strictures or other damage.

Blessings,
